Yann Bertrand, Fleurie Cuvee Emile, 2023
Yann Bertrand is part of a new generation of Beaujolais producers working with organic farming and low-intervention winemaking to highlight the individuality of each cru. Based in Fleurie, Bertrand farms old-vine Gamay on granite-rich soils and works with whole cluster fermentation and minimal sulfur to preserve freshness and transparency. Cuvée Emile is named in honor of his grandfather and reflects a more structured, site-driven expression of Fleurie.
The 2023 vintage is fragrant and energetic, offering notes of wild strawberry, raspberry, violet, blood orange, and crushed herbs alongside subtle earthy spice. The palate is silky and vibrant, with bright acidity, fine tannins, and a savory mineral edge that carries through the finish. Lifted and expressive, the wine captures the floral elegance and underlying structure that define Fleurie at its best.
Varietal: Gamay
Appellation: Fleurie, Beaujolais, France
Farming: Organic; low-intervention
Style: Red. Floral, energetic, and mineral-driven
