Wasenhaus was founded by Burgundian-trained winemakers Christoph and Alex Götze and has become one of Germany’s most closely watched estates for Pinot Noir. Bellen is sourced from limestone-rich vineyard sites in Baden, where cooler exposures and careful farming produce Spätburgunder with freshness, aromatic lift, and fine structure. Made with a restrained, low-intervention approach and aged in French oak, the wine reflects both the estate’s Burgundian influence and the distinct character of Baden.
The 2023 vintage is vibrant and finely detailed, offering notes of wild strawberry, red cherry, cranberry, rose petal, and forest floor alongside subtle spice and smoky mineral tones. The palate is silky and energetic, balancing bright acidity with fine tannins and a long, savory finish. Elegant yet structured, the wine captures the lifted, mineral-driven style that has made Wasenhaus one of the most exciting names in German Pinot Noir.
Varietal: Spätburgunder
Appellation: Landwein, Baden, Germany
Farming: Organic; low-intervention
Style: Red. Elegant, savory, and finely structured
Erik Longabardi and Benford Lepley founded Floral Terranes in 2017 out of a shared passion for fruit foraging, fermentation, and the preservation of Long Island’s agricultural heritage. For the 2023 Whole Cluster Cabernet Franc, they worked with organically farmed fruit from a grower site in Mattituck, less than a mile from the Long Island Sound. The vineyard sits on sandy-loam soils typical of the area, which naturally produce lighter, fragrant reds with a clean maritime edge.
The wine was fermented entirely with whole clusters, giving it lifted aromatics and the gentle herbal notes that Cabernet Franc shows so well when handled delicately. The palate is bright and lightly textured, with red cherry, plum skin and a touch of fresh sage, finishing crisp and savory with a subtle saline impression from the nearby shoreline. It’s an easy, expressive Long Island red that speaks clearly to its coastal origins.
Varietal: Cabernet Franc
Appellation: North Fork of Long Island, New York, United States
Farming: Organic farming at the grower site
Style: Red. Fresh, aromatic and lightly savory
Vietti’s Barolo Riserva is produced only in exceptional vintages and represents some of the estate’s most prized vineyard holdings and oldest stocks. Made entirely from Nebbiolo and aged extensively before release, the wine reflects a traditional approach to Barolo centered on structure, complexity, and long-term aging. The 2017 vintage is limited in production and showcases the concentration and depth achieved in a warm growing season balanced by Vietti’s precision in the vineyard and cellar.
The wine opens with layered aromas of black cherry, dried rose, orange peel, cedar, tobacco, and sweet spice alongside deeper notes of truffle, leather, and tar. The palate is powerful and expansive, with concentrated fruit, firm tannins, and vibrant acidity providing lift and structure through the long finish. Complex and commanding, this is a deeply cellar-worthy Barolo with decades of evolution ahead.
Varietal: Nebbiolo
Appellation: Barolo DOCG, Piedmont, Italy
Farming: Sustainably farmed
Style: Red. Powerful, layered, and age-worthy
