Wasenhaus was founded by Burgundian-trained winemakers Christoph and Alex Götze and has become one of Germany’s most closely watched estates for Pinot Noir. Möhlin is sourced from vineyard parcels in southern Baden near the Möhlin river valley, where limestone-rich soils and cooler hillside sites produce Spätburgunder, or Pinot Noir, with freshness, fine structure, and mineral character. Produced with partial whole cluster fermentation and aged in used French oak, the wine reflects the estate’s restrained, low-intervention approach and Burgundian sensibility.
The 2023 vintage is fragrant and finely detailed, opening with red cherry, cranberry, rosehip, dried herbs, and subtle earth. A portion of whole cluster fermentation brings lift and spice, while aging in used French oak preserves the wine’s brightness and mineral character. Silky, savory, and energetic through the finish, it is a precise and expressive Spätburgunder.
