Weingut Unterlind, Riesling Spatlese, Trittenheimer Apotheke, Mosel, Germany, 2023

$76.00

Weingut Unterlind is the small Mosel project of Heiner Bollig and Veronika Bollig-Lintner, founded in 2019. Bollig is also the cellar master at Egon Müller, and at Unterlind the couple focuses on traditional Riesling from some of the Middle Mosel’s great steep-slope vineyards. Their Trittenheimer Apotheke parcel is planted on Devonian slate, with vines averaging around 50 years old and some approaching 100 years.

The 2023 was harvested entirely by hand and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel. It is a classic, fruit-driven Spätlese, with ripe peach, apricot and citrus balanced by lively acidity and smoky, saline slate notes. Delicate sweetness gives the wine richness without weighing it down, leading to a long, refreshing finish.

Varietal: Riesling
Appellation: Trittenheimer Apotheke, Mosel, Germany
Farming: Hand-farmed and hand-harvested
Style: White. Off-dry, vibrant and finely structured
