Weingut Egon Müller, Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese, Mosel, 2023
Weingut Egon Müller is a historic Saar estate centered on its holdings in the steep Scharzhofberg vineyard near Wiltingen. Planted to Riesling on slate soils, the vineyard’s cool conditions allow for slow ripening and naturally high acidity. The Spätlese is selected from riper fruit than the Kabinett, giving the wine greater concentration while retaining the freshness characteristic of the site.
The 2023 is rich and intensely aromatic, with ripe peach, apricot and citrus joined by floral notes and a smoky, slate-like character. Pronounced sweetness is balanced by vibrant acidity, giving the palate both concentration and freshness. Saline and savory notes emerge through the long finish, adding complexity to the ripe fruit.
Varietal: Riesling
Appellation: Scharzhofberg, Wiltingen, Mosel, Germany
Farming: Traditional viticulture
Style: White. Sweet, concentrated and vibrant
