Valdicava, Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy, 2020
Valdicava is a family estate on the northern side of Montalcino, near the hill of Montosoli, where Vincenzo Abbruzzese focuses exclusively on Sangiovese. In 2020, the estate did not produce a separate Montosoli bottling, incorporating that fruit into its Brunello di Montalcino and adding further depth to the final blend. The 2020 was aged for two years in large oak casks. Ripe cherry and wild berries are joined by violet, dried herbs and subtle earthy spice. The palate is concentrated but balanced, with fine tannins and lively acidity giving shape to the fruit. A stony, savory character carries through the long, polished finish. Varietal: Sangiovese Appellation: Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy Farming: Traditional viticulture Style: Red. Concentrated, savory and refined
