Valdicava is a family estate on the northern side of Montalcino, in the Montosoli area, where Vincenzo Abbruzzese focuses exclusively on Sangiovese. In 2008, the estate did not produce its single-vineyard Madonna del Piano Riserva, concentrating its Brunello production into this bottling instead. Now showing the complexity that comes with bottle age, the 2008 combines black cherry and plum with dried herbs, leather, spice and earthy notes. The palate is medium-bodied and balanced, with polished tannins and lingering savory character giving the wine an elegant, mature finish.
