The Rare Wine Co. created its Historic Series in collaboration with Madeira producer Vinhos Barbeito, blending younger wines with much older reserves to capture the complexity and character of mature Madeira. Each wine is named for an American city with a historic connection to Madeira, with Savannah Verdelho reflecting the drier styles traditionally favored in the South. Savannah Verdelho is lightly sweet but balanced by Madeira’s naturally vibrant acidity. Orange peel and candied citrus are joined by ginger, almond, honey and subtle toasted notes. Rich and concentrated without feeling heavy, it finishes long, tangy and spicy, with enough freshness to make it equally suited to the table or enjoyed on its own.
