The Eyrie Vineyards was founded by David and Diana Lett, who established their first vineyard in Oregon in 1965 and helped introduce Pinot Noir to the Willamette Valley. Original Vines comes entirely from the original Eyrie Vineyard in the Dundee Hills, drawing from Pinot Noir vines planted between 1965 and 1974. These historic, own-rooted vines grow on the volcanic soils of the Dundee Hills and are dry-farmed without irrigation. The 2014 was fermented spontaneously with native yeasts and hand punch-downs, then aged for 18 months in French oak. Red cherry and plum are joined by dried flowers, herbs and subtle earthy spice. Fine tannins and fresh acidity balance the warmth and generosity of the vintage, leading to a long, savory finish.
