Maxime Ponson represents a new generation of grower-producers in Champagne, working organically and with a sharp focus on site expression. Les Barbaries comes from a Premier Cru lieu-dit planted exclusively to Chardonnay, where chalk-rich soils and careful farming yield excellent fruit. The “Trio” designation refers to the use of multiple vessels during vinification—stainless steel, neutral oak, and concrete—each contributing a different dimension while preserving the vineyard’s core character.
The 2018 vintage is expressive yet composed, opening with lemon zest, green apple, and white stone fruit, layered with subtle floral notes and a pronounced chalky minerality. The palate is focused and finely textured, driven by vibrant acidity and a saline edge that carries through the long, clean finish. A serious, site-driven Blanc de Blancs with energy and depth.
