J.G. Benda, Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy, 2023

$89.00

J.G. Benda is a small Montalcino estate founded by John Benda, who established the project after working at Il Marroneto. The domaine farms two small, high-elevation vineyards surrounded by forest, with a focus entirely on Sangiovese. In the low-yielding 2023 vintage, Benda produced only one red wine, incorporating fruit normally destined for Brunello into the Rosso di Montalcino.

The 2023 was aged for 12 months in large French oak casks and smaller barrels, followed by additional aging in bottle. Fresh and perfumed, it shows ripe dark cherry, blood orange and subtle earthy notes. Satiny tannins and lively acidity give the palate an elegant, finely structured feel, with a delicate saline note carrying through the finish.

Varietal: Sangiovese
Appellation: Rosso di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
Farming: Organic and biodynamic practices
Style: Red. Fresh, elegant and perfumed
