Jean Foillard took over his family domaine in 1981 and farms vineyards in Morgon and Fleurie using a low-intervention approach influenced by the work of Jules Chauvet. His Fleurie comes from old Gamay vines on the appellation’s granitic soils, including south-facing vines in the lieu-dit Champagne.
The 2023 was harvested by hand and given a three- to four-week maceration, followed by six to nine months of aging in oak on the lees before bottling without filtration. Fragrant and supple, it shows raspberry and red cherry with violet, spice and a touch of white pepper. Fresh acidity and fine tannins give the wine an elegant, persistent finish.
