J.B. Becker is a historic family estate in Walluf, founded in 1893 and today led by Hans-Josef Becker. Since taking over in 1971, Becker has remained committed to dry Riesling and a traditional style of winemaking, often giving his wines considerably more time to develop than is typical in the region. Wallufer Walkenberg is a warm vineyard above the village of Walluf, where Riesling develops generous ripeness while retaining the acidity characteristic of the Rheingau.
The 2023 Spätlese Trocken is fully dry, with ripe apple, quince and citrus joined by herbs and subtle savory notes. There is richness and concentration from the Spätlese-level fruit, balanced by firm acidity and a stony, lightly saline character. The wine is structured and persistent, with a long, dry finish.
