Il Marroneto was founded in 1975, when Alessandro Mori and his brother planted their first vines on the northern slope of Montalcino. Today Alessandro continues to make Brunello with a distinctly traditional approach, focusing entirely on Sangiovese and long aging in large oak casks. The vineyards sit around 400 meters above sea level on soils of ancient marine sand mixed with mineral deposits.
Made entirely from Sangiovese, the 2021 was fermented spontaneously and aged for 42 months in large oak casks before further rest in bottle. A warm, dry growing season gave the wine generous ripeness while preserving the freshness that defines Il Marroneto. Dark cherry and red fruit are joined by blood orange, Mediterranean herbs and subtle earthy notes. The palate is deep and structured, with ripe, finely textured tannins and bright acidity carrying the wine through a long, savory finish.
