I. Brand & Family is the project of Ian and Heather Brand, founded in 2008 with a focus on distinctive and often overlooked vineyards throughout California’s Central Coast. DeRose Vineyard lies south of Hollister in the Cienega Valley, directly along the San Andreas Fault, and is part of one of California’s historic vineyard sites. The old, own-rooted Cabernet Franc vines grow in a mix of limestone and granite soils, giving Ian Brand an unusually distinctive source for the variety.
The 2023 is a savory, energetic expression of Cabernet Franc, with red cherry and wild berries joined by rose, dried herbs and subtle earthy notes. Bright acidity keeps the palate fresh, while firm, fine-grained tannins give the wine structure and length. Floral and herbal notes linger alongside the red fruit through a long, savory finish.
