Erik Longabardi and Benford Lepley founded Floral Terranes on the premise of land stewardship and working closely with small growers across Long Island and the North Fork. For their 2023 Whole Cluster red, they sourced organically farmed Cabernet Franc and Merlot from Elijah Vineyard in Mattituck, a coastal site on the North Fork of Long Island less than a mile from the Long Island Sound.
The grapes were harvested by hand and fermented entirely with whole clusters, a technique that brings freshness and structure while highlighting the region’s maritime character. The wine shows juicy red and blue fruits, light herbal tones and a subtle savory edge. The palate is vibrant and medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a crisp finish shaped by the coastal influence. It’s an easy, expressive North Fork red that’s both unpretentious and thoughtfully made.
