Domaine Michel Gay et Fils is a family estate based in Chorey-lès-Beaune, now led by brothers Sébastien and Laurent Gay. Their Coucherias Vieilles Vignes comes from old Pinot Noir vines in the Beaune Premier Cru climat of Coucherias, a high-lying site on the southern side of the Montagne de Beaune with clay-limestone soils. The 2019 was destemmed and given a cold pre-fermentation maceration before fermentation, followed by 15 months in barrel with 50% new oak. Ripe cherry, raspberry and darker berry fruit are joined by subtle spice and earthy notes. The warmth of the vintage gives the wine generous fruit, balanced by fresh acidity and fine tannins through the long, savory finish.
