Domaine Michel Gay et Fils is a family estate based in Chorey-lès-Beaune, now led by brothers Sébastien and Laurent Gay. Their Coucherias Vieilles Vignes comes from old Pinot Noir vines in the Beaune Premier Cru climat of Coucherias, planted on clay-limestone soils. The 2018 was destemmed and given a cold pre-fermentation maceration before fermentation, followed by 15 months in barrel with 50% new oak. Ripe cherry and raspberry are joined by subtle spice and earthy notes, with the warmth of the vintage giving the wine generous fruit. Fine tannins and fresh acidity provide balance, leading to a long, savory finish.
