Au Bas de Combe comes from a parcel of roughly 80-year-old Pinot Noir vines in Nuits-Saint-Georges, close to the border with Vosne-Romanée. The old vines give this village-level wine unusual depth while retaining the finesse associated with this northern end of the appellation.
The 2021 underwent a cool pre-fermentation maceration followed by an 18- to 20-day fermentation and maceration, then was aged in French oak. Red and dark cherry, raspberry and subtle spice lead into a medium-bodied palate with fine tannins and lively acidity. Earthy and mineral notes emerge through the finish, giving the wine a savory, structured character.
