The Chave family has been making wine in the Northern Rhône since 1481 and is best known for its historic wines from Hermitage. Clos Florentin is a historic walled vineyard in Mauves, in the heart of Saint-Joseph, acquired by Jean-Louis Chave in 2009 and first bottled separately in 2015. Planted to old Syrah vines, the site produces a distinctive, generous expression of Saint-Joseph. The 2023 shows ripe blackberry and dark cherry with violet, black olive and peppery spice. The palate is concentrated yet supple, with fine tannins and enough freshness to balance the ripe fruit. Savory notes emerge through the finish, giving the wine depth without sacrificing its elegant, polished character.
