Domaine Jean François Ganevat, Chalasses Vieilles Vignes, 2018
Jean-François Ganevat works with a precision and intuition that has made him one of the Jura’s most admired vignerons. His domaine in Rotalier is a collection of old, low-yielding parcels, many farmed biodynamically and all handled with a remarkably light touch in the cellar. Chalasses is one of his signature sites, and the Vieilles Vignes bottling comes from Chardonnay planted in the 1930s on steep slopes of blue marl.
The 2018 vintage is layered and quietly powerful. Aromas of pear, citrus oil and white flowers move into deeper notes of hazelnut and crushed stone. The palate is concentrated yet lifted, shaped by bright acidity and the natural tension of the marl soils. The finish is long and finely defined, carrying a subtle saline edge. It is an elegant, characterful expression of old-vine Jura Chardonnay from a producer whose wines remain among the most sought after in the region.
Varietal: Chardonnay
Appellation: Côtes du Jura, Jura, France
Farming: Biodynamic practices, old vines planted in the 1930s
Style: White. Textured, vibrant and long-lined
