Domaine Jean-Claude Marsanne is a family estate in Mauves, one of the historic villages of Saint-Joseph, where the family has grown grapes for generations. Their Saint-Joseph Rouge is made entirely from Syrah grown on the steep granite slopes above the Rhône, across from the hill of Hermitage. The 2022 was traditionally vinified and aged primarily in older oak demi-muids, with a portion kept in tank. Ripe blackberry and cassis are joined by violet, black pepper and subtle earthy notes. The palate has plenty of depth but remains balanced, with fine tannins and a savory, mineral character carrying through the long finish.
