Domaine Charles Joguet, Chinon, Clos de la Dioterie, 2019
Clos de la Dioterie is one of the crown jewels of Joguet’s estate, a north-facing, old-vine parcel planted largely in the 1930s and known for producing some of the deepest and most age-worthy Cabernet Franc in Chinon. Joguet farms the site organically and harvests by hand, preserving the natural concentration these old vines deliver. The 2019 vintage adds a warm-year generosity while keeping the vineyard’s signature structure firmly in place.
The nose carries blackcurrant, dark cherry, and violets, along with graphite, tobacco leaf, and a faint savory edge that comes with age on the vine. The palate is firm and layered, showing ripe fruit backed by fine, persistent tannins and the cool mineral line that marks the Dioterie site. The finish is long and steady, promising years, if not decades, of development.
This is one of Chinon’s reference bottlings: serious, cellar-worthy Cabernet Franc from an exceptional parcel, crafted with a level of care that has defined Joguet for generations.
Varietal: Cabernet Franc
Appellation: Chinon, Loire Valley, France
Farming: Organic
Style: Red. Structured, complex, and cellar-worthy
