Bruno Giacosa, Le Rocche del Falletto, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy, 2019

$340.00

Bruno Giacosa was one of the defining traditional producers of Barolo and Barbaresco, building his reputation through an extraordinary understanding of the vineyards of the Langhe. In 1980, Giacosa acquired the Falletto estate in Serralunga d’Alba, a steep, amphitheater-shaped vineyard with calcareous clay soils. Vigna Le Rocche is a prized selection within Falletto, drawn from its oldest vines and bottled separately only in vintages deemed worthy.

Made entirely from Nebbiolo, the 2019 underwent 25 days of fermentation and maceration before aging for 32 months in French oak, followed by at least 10 months in bottle. It is a powerful yet elegant expression of Serralunga, with dark cherry, raspberry and pomegranate joined by rose, blood orange, earth and subtle spice. Firm, finely woven tannins give the wine impressive structure, while freshness and persistent fruit carry the long, complex finish.

Varietal: Nebbiolo
Appellation: Barolo, Serralunga d’Alba, Piedmont, Italy
Farming: Traditional viticulture
Style: Red. Structured, elegant and complex
