Braida, Montebruna Barbera d'Asti, Piedmont, Italy, 2021
Braida is one of the estates most closely associated with Barbera in Piedmont, built on Giacomo Bologna’s belief that the variety could produce wines of real depth and character. Montebruna comes entirely from estate vineyards in Rocchetta Tanaro, assembled over seven years from numerous small parcels to reunite the historic property. The wine represents a more traditional expression of Barbera at Braida.
The 2021 is made entirely from Barbera, fermented for two weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel and then aged for one year in large oak casks. Ripe cherry and red berries lead the way, joined by plum, flowers and subtle spice. The palate is full and generous, balanced by Barbera’s lively acidity, with a smooth texture and a long, savory finish carrying a characteristic hint of almond.
Varietal: Barbera
Appellation: Barbera d'Asti, Piedmont, Italy
Farming: Traditional viticulture
Style: Red. Juicy, generous and vibrant
