Benoît Déhu, La Rue des Noyers Extra Brut, Marne, Champagne, NV 2019
Benoît Déhu is an eighth-generation grower based in Fossoy in the western Vallée de la Marne, where his work centers on small parcels farmed biodynamically and a particular focus on Meunier. La Rue des Noyers comes from a single 1.7-hectare parcel of Meunier planted over limestone-rich soils.
The 2019 was fermented and aged in 228-liter oak barrels, many made from trees grown in nearby forests, without malolactic fermentation. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with no dosage, it is rich yet dry, with pear and orchard fruit, hazelnut, spice and subtle smoky notes. Fresh acidity and a fine mousse lead to a long, savory finish.
Varietal: Meunier
Appellation: Vallée de la Marne, Champagne, France
Farming: Biodynamic
Style: Sparkling. Vinous, dry and savory
