Barone Pizzini, Bagnadore Franciacorta Riserva Extra-Brut, Lombardia, 2016
Barone Pizzini is one of Franciacorta’s pioneering organic producers and is known for prioritizing vineyard health, careful farming and long lees aging. Bagnadore is the estate’s Riserva, produced only in select vintages from the 3.9-hectare Roccolo vineyard. This vintage is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Nero grown on deep morainic soils with a pebbly subsoil.
The wine is fermented in French oak and aged for eight months primarily in first- and second-use barriques, with a small portion in stainless steel. After a minimum of 72 months on the lees, it is finished with no dosage. The 2016 vintage is structured and complex, with ripe citrus, orchard fruit and spice complemented by savory notes and a long, dry finish.
