Au Bon Climat created Isabelle as its top Pinot Noir blend, selecting the best barrels from vineyards across California. Named for founder Jim Clendenen’s daughter, the wine has been produced since the 1990s, with the blend changing each vintage. The cool 2021 growing season produced a particularly fresh, structured expression.
Individual vineyard lots were fermented separately in open-top fermenters and aged for 20 months in new François Frères French oak before the final barrel selection. The wine shows raspberry, cherry and blood orange with anise, bay leaf, baking spice and subtle earthy notes. Medium-bodied with firm acidity and a long finish, it has the structure to continue developing in bottle.
